Resource Overview

This lesson will challenge A2-level students’ ideas about food and cuisine. Students will go on a culinary adventure and discuss dishes from around the globe that people might find strange. After an in-depth vocabulary study, students will read an original passage about some bizarre dishes. They will then answer comprehension and opinion questions based on the reading. After that, students will learn food-related expressions and idioms, with example sentences and discussion prompts. The lesson finishes with a fun activity and a “would you rather” scenario set.

This lesson stands out with its unique focus on introducing new foods and cultures, steering away from the usual ESL topics. The layout is clear and uncluttered, making it easy to follow and perfect for online teaching. I love how it prioritizes student speaking activities, fostering participation and interaction. While the lesson is packed with content—great for engagement—it may run longer than a standard 50-minute class. That said, it’s a versatile resource that can easily be split into two sessions. Highly recommended for sparking curiosity and conversation in your class!
