Hi, my name is Kim. I am a South African native English Tutor. I also hold a British passport. I have been fortunate enough to study at a tertiary level and have read for an Honors in Criminology, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Forensic Investigation and Criminal Justice as well as an Undergraduate Bachelor of Social Science Degree – majors in Law and Psychology. I also hold an IOB Certificate in Banking and a level 5 Advanced TEFl Diploma from i-to-i.com in the UK, which included Business English and two 60-hour certifications to teach IELTS and other subjects.

I have been teaching online for 15 months and have been lucky enough to tutor a diverse range of students from Taiwan, Indonesia, the USA and Europe. I have experience with children as young as 6 years old but I tend to concentrate more on students from 12 years of age up to a corporate level. I have many highly qualified professionals as my students and value establishing meaningful relationships that transcend mere English learning. 

I strive for a structured, student-centred language class. I endeavour to foster a comfortable environment where no student feels self-conscious about making mistakes. I am a helper at heart and have cherished this time teaching and helping others achieve their goals. I use my years of work and study experience to create meaningful and authentic lessons. Learning is a lifelong journey and every moment should be cherished and maximised.

My work as a High-network private banker for over 10 years afforded me exposure to different nationalities and cultures where identifying, understanding and fulfilling individuals’ needs was essential, as too was good communication. My time as a live-in carer in the UK during COVID-19 was rewarding and challenging and helped me develop good listening skills and to think outside the box to adapt to individuals’ unique requirements. Tailoring your learning experience and ensuring it meets your goals is essential for success.

I was fortunate enough to win teacher of the quarter and teacher of the year in my first year teaching, which was a true honour and just goes to show that when you love something, the sky is the limit.

I value sharing my love of learning and language with others and by doing this I can be at home to care for my elderly mother and spend time with my rescue Scottish terrier Meg and continue with my passion to work in the family carpentry business. I love swimming and spending time in nature and I look forward to learning more about you and your country and helping you achieve your dreams and goals. I can not wait to have you in class.
